RHI Renewable Heat Incentive
The Renewable Heat Incentive is a government scheme that rewards homeowners and businesses for generating heat from renewable sources. This incentive is available to people who choose to install one of the following technologies.
The Non Domestic RHI
The RHI has been in place in place for the non domestic sector for some time. The non domestic RHI is paid over a 20 year period based on metered generation. The non domestic RHI is available to all businesses wishing to update their heating or hot water systems to a renewable energy source. The technologies we provide relevant to the scheme are:
- Space heating
- Process heating
- Industrial process
- Water heating
We have many previous clients who have been accepted on to the RHI scheme with a variety of uses for the heat, here are a few examples:
- Farms heating more than one building; domestic or commercial (farm office for example)
- Bed and breakfast accomodation
- Self catering holiday cottages
- Poultry farms
- Friendly neighbours who share a biomass system
The Domestic RHI
The domestic RHI launched in Spring 2014 is designed to help homeowners switch to renewable heating. The domestic RHI is paid over 7 years at a deemed rate calculated by an energy performance assessor. This rate is individual to each home and takes into account the property size, construction and insulation levels.
Homeowners could qualify for the non domestic 20 year RHI if they were to share a heating system with another property, possibly a business premises. Heating more than one property from a renewable heating system qualifies the owner/s for the non domestic RHI.
